It is said that many years ago there was a girl who would go to the river every day to cry because her parents had arranged her marriage.

The river heard her and offered to help, and gave her a large amount of fish to convince her parents that she could help out at home and not have to marry.
Several days passed and the wedding was still planned, until the girl decided to follow
her own path and become part of the river.
She learned that everyone shapes their own destiny, regardless of the conditions in which one is born.
That is how we Chinantecos tell it.
